JAN 20     ARRIVE REYKJAVIK, ICELAND – NORTHERN LIGHTS MYSTERY

Arrive Reykjavik, meet and transfer to your hotel. Come with us on this spectacular tour to search for the Northern Lights. Join us for a mysterious trip, on a dark winter night. Any time from the onset of autumn darkness until the light nights of spring we can witness one of nature’s most spectacular displays; the phenomenon which we call the Northern Lights. Far from the glow of the city lights, we hunt for exclusive Aurora Borealis, known as the Northern lights. Together we will search for these magnificent auroras. On a clear night, we may be lucky enough to see the Northern Lights swirling in a wild and carefree dance across the sky in dramatic shapes, colors, patterns and sizes. The Northern Lights are visible from September through April but can only be seen on a clear night. Therefore, we reserve the right to cancel this tour if the evening sky is heavily clouded or weather conditions are not favourable. 

JAN 21            THE GOLDEN CIRCLE CLASSIC

Breakfast at hotel. This popular excursion introduces you to same of the best-known natural phenomena in Iceland. You will visit Nesjavellir power plant, a high temperature geothermal area situated in the picturesque landscape of Lake ingvallavatn. You will enter ingvellir, where the Icelandic parliament Aldingi was founded in 930, which makes it the oldest known functioning parliament in the world. The tour continues to the beautiful waterfall Gullfoss and from there towards the geothermal area around the incredible spouting hot springs of Greysir and Strokkur. We proceed to Skalholt church, the ancient seat of the Icelandic bishops. On the way back, a photo stop by the colourful volcanic crater Kerio is included. From there the route continues through fertile agricultural areas to Hverageroi, a small and charming horticultural village.

JAN 22     REYKJAVIK CITY TOUR

This tour  includes all of the most significant sights in the capital and its surrounding towns such as the Presidential Residence at Bessastadir, the Restaurant Perlan and Hofoi House. Filmed in Iceland, the TV series “Game of Thrones” has showed cased some of the country’s most breathtaking  cenery and we have crafted a special tour that takes you to the these sites. Walk in the footstep of your favourite characters and get up close and explore the locations used in this gripping drama. We’ve prepared this tour under careful guidance from an Icelandic actor on the program, who unsurprisingly died a violent death at the hands of the Wildlings. We journey to the dramatic gorge at Thingveillir, the stomping ground of the White walkers and the trail of the Wildlings from “north of the wall.” You will be able to soak up the raw and dramatic atmosphere provided by the magnificent nature at Thingveillir and get to know the symbolic significance of the setting in context to the plot. We also explore Thjorsardalur and the “Settlement Era Viking Lodge”, the location of the greatest massacre and most elaborate scene of the series so far. JAN 24            SOUTH COAST AND WATERFALLS

Breakfast at hotel. Travel through the ever-changing landscape of south Iceland and discover some of country’s biggest volcanoes, glaciers and most iconic waterfalls. Travel through the south Iceland farming lands to the black sand beaches, thundering waterfalls, powerful volcanoes and majestic glaciers on the south coast. The first stop is at Skogarfoss. A picturesque waterfall thundering down the slopes of Eyjafjallajokull volcano. A waterfall frequently used in movies and commercials. Then onwards for a leisurely stroll along the black sand beach of Reynisfjara. The beach features stacks of basalt columns that wall off surrounding cliffs scattered with caves. Offshore you will see Reynisdrangar pillars, basalt rock stacks that rise from the sea. Icelandic legend says they were trolls turned into rock by the rising sun when they came home late after a fishing trip. We round off this great sightseeing tour with a stop at Seljalandsfoss waterfall where we can walk behind this magnificent wall of water, right in the slopes of Eyjafjallajokull volcano. On a clear day you will have a fantastic view of famous volcanoes, Hekla and Eyjafjallajokull. You will also see the Westman Islands, rising steeply from the ocean just a few kilometres of the coast.
