Pope announces “Jubilee of mercy”

Pope Francis has declared an Extraordinary Holy Year which will begin on 8 December 2015 and conclude on 20 November 2016, the Feast of Christ the King. The Holy Door will be opened to mark the occasion. (Symbolic door located at the northern most entrance of St. Peter’s Basilica) ref: Vatican Insider

Plenary Indulgence

As in other Holy Years, there will be an opportunity to receive Plenary Indulgence, a year of forgiveness of sins. It’s also a year of reconciliation and an opportunity to deepen your faith.

The Holy Door was last opened by Pope John Paul II in 2000 for the Great Jubilee. Now that it is opened again, it is the best time to visit the Vatican.

JAN 17       LISBON – FATIMA

Arrive Lisbon, meet and transfer to Fatima with a panoramic tour of Lisbon. Welcome to Fatima, a town in Portugal which is well known for the Apparition of Our Lady in 1917. Overnight at hotel. Join evening Rosary and Candlelight procession at the holy grounds of  Our Lady of Fatima Shrine.

JAN 18       FATIMA

Breakfast at hotel. Let us all be one in celebration of 100th year anniversary of Apparition of Our Lady with Holy Mass, Rosary prayers and adoration at the Apparition chapel.  Pay homage to the tombs of three visionaries:  Sister Lucia, Francesco and Jacinta at the Basilica.  See the Museum at the modern Shrine.  Drive to the house of Francisco and Jacinta, Angels’ Hill and the nearby souvenir shops of locally produced items.  

JAN 19       FATIMA – PORTO – SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA 

Breakfast at hotel. Morning drive to the coastal city of Porto (lunch in local Porto restaurant on pax account) where the best wines are locally produced.    Proceed to Santiago de Compostela.

JAN 20     SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA 

Breakfast at hotel. Morning city tour includes the visit to the Cathedral which is surrounded with plazas: the grand Praza do Obradoiro; Praza de Fonseca; the Colexio de Fonseca with beautiful Renaissance courtyard – the original seat of Santiago’s university (founded in 1495);  and Prazas das Praterias with majestic Fuente de los Caballos fountain (1829). Walk to Casa do Cabildo (1758) for more café-lined and souvenir shops. Most of all Santiago de Compostela is known for the culmination of Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route.  Allegedly, it is the burial site of St James the Apostle, within the Catedral de Santiago de  Compostela, which was consecrated in 1211.  Afternoon free at leisure.

JAN 21    SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA – OVIEDO – BILBAO  

Breakfast at hotel. Early morning drive to the capital of Principality of Asturias, Oviedo.  Proceed to Bilbao, the de facto Capital of Basque country. 

JAN 22    BILBAO – LOURDES 

Breakfast at hotel.  Cross country drive from Spain to France.  Proceed to Lourdes – a town in the midi-pyrenness of southwest France, where on 1858, Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Bernadette in the Grotto of Massabielle. Today, the Sanctuaries of Notre Dame is a major pilgrimage site.  Upon arrival, time free for personal devotion.  Attend Mass, bathe in the holy spring and/or visit the house of Saint  Bernadette and the Cachot, Basilica and the Grotto. Attend the colorful and solemn candlelight procession in the evening. 

JAN 23        LOURDES

After breakfast, full day free for individual private activities. 

JAN 24        LOURDES – CARCASSONE – LYON

After breakfast, drive to Lyon via Carcassone for a lunch stop. An orientation tour upon arrival in Lyon.

JAN 25        LYON – TURIN 

After breakfast, you will have a short city tour of Lyon before leaving the city. Then, another cross country drive from France to Italy.  Arrive in Turin, the capital city of Piedmont northern Italy.  Visit the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, where the Holy Shroud is kept – “An image that everyone sees but no one can explain,” according to Saint John Paul II; “It corresponds to everything that the Gospel say of Jesus,” according to Pope Benedict XVI.   

JAN 26      TURIN –  MILAN 

Breakfast at hotel.  Transfer to Milan for afternoon city tour, the global capital of fashion and design.  Visit the Duomo (Cathedral) and Santa Maria Delle Grazie Convent, where Leonardo da Vinci’s fresco “The Last Supper” prove centuries of art and culture. 

JAN 27     MILAN – PADUA 

Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to Padua, city orientation, Mass at Saint Anthony of Padua Shrine. 

JAN 28       PADUA – PISA – ROME 

Breakfast at hotel.  Transfer to Pisa.  Walk to Piazza Dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles) for selfies with the well known Leaning Tower of Pisa.  Drive to Rome.  

JAN 29          ROME 

Breakfast at hotel.  See the Holy Doors of Saint Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican. Entrance to Sistine Chapel. Visit the Basilica of Saint Sabina. It is a titular minor basilica and mother church of the Roman Catholic Order of Preachers, better known as the Dominicans. 

JAN 30       ROME – LANCIANO – SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO

Breakfast at hotel. Drive to Lanciano to visit Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano. Then, drive to San Giovanni Rotondo to visit the Shrine of Padre Pio. Franciscan Pio of Pietrelcina, was a friar, stigmatist, and mystic – one of the most popular saints of the century.  This Shrine is considered as one of the most visited pilgrim sites in the world.  Time free for private devotion, see his relics at the museum in the old church while the new church houses his tomb.  

JAN 31       SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO – ROME – MANILA 

Breakfast at hotel. Time free until transfer to Fiumicino Airport for departure flight back to Manila. 

FEB 01         ARRIVAL MANILA 

Arrival in Manila.  End of Tour.
