Pope announces “Jubilee of mercy”

Pope Francis has declared an Extraordinary Holy Year which will begin on 8 December 2015 and conclude on 20 November 2016, the Feast of Christ the King. The Holy Door will be opened to mark the occasion. (Symbolic door located at the northern most entrance of St. Peter’s Basilica) ref: Vatican Insider

Plenary Indulgence

As in other Holy Years, there will be an opportunity to receive Plenary Indulgence, a year of forgiveness of sins. It’s also a year of reconciliation and an opportunity to deepen your faith.

The Holy Door was last opened by Pope John Paul II in 2000 for the Great Jubilee. Now that it is opened again, it is the best time to visit the Vatican.
