mango-grove-logoThe Mango Grove at Bancal River, Iba, Zambales, is a sprawling 24 hectares of fertile land. On one side of this sanctuary quietly runs Bancal river.

In 1991, 50 families were displaced by the devastating eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in the Philippines. These homeless families were invited to stay in what would later on become the Mango Grove.

Eventually, ABS CBN Foundation, through its “Bantay Kalikasan” program (literally, “Environment Warriors”), stepped in and began to train the Mango Grove’s residents to be self-sufficient. They were trained in organic farming, construction, eco-tourism, and housekeeping.

mango-grove-organic-foodToday, this 81-family strong community boasts an organic farm, a training center, a meditation hut (built by compassionate visitors from the U.S.), and a modern bed-and-breakfast with a fully running restaurant (which serves Filipino as well as international cuisine).

A stay at the Mango Grove at Bancal River presents a two-fold benefit: you get to go back to basics, and you get to help a community to stand on their own.
