THE ISTIQLAL MOSQUE

Istiqlal meaning freedom – is the largest Mosque in Southeast Asia. Built in 1953 by architect Silaban, after the war of independence. Its architecture is modern yet imbue with Indonesian architecture. Foreign dignitaries all over the world come and visit this Mosque during their stay in Jakarta.

THE CATHOLIC CATHEDRAL

This Cathedral is located just in front of the Istiqlal Mosque in 1891. Built in gothic style, it has three towers with high windows decorated with glass paintings. There are three altars inside the church forming a semi-circle.

THE IMANUEL CHURCH

Its construction started in 1837, however Dutch authorities finally officiated the church in 1839. Originally known as de Willemskerk, it stands in front of the Gambir train station. It houses the oldest musical organ of Indonesia.

THE PETAK SEMBILAN TEMPLE

Located at Pasar Glodok, this temple dates back to 1879 was also known as Vihara Tri Ratna. This temple is consecrated to ceremonies to the dead which are held during Chinese quingming.
